It was overcast with temps in the 60's. The terrain was rolling hills.
Leonard joined me for the entire walk. Leonard is now tied for first place with Karen & Jim Iden with four complete walks. He is the first person to have walked with me in two different states.
Thanks to the Hardee's in Union for the Hash Rounds they gave us when they heard about the walk. We walked by a nice housing development where the lots were on the water with docks for boating. Leonard spotted a large hawk as we walked by a wooded area.
Halfway thru the walk we completed our journey to get to the walkable part of US Route 50 where it left Interstate 44. This is the route I will be following for the remainder of the walk. At this point the Historic Route 66 signage parted ways with us continuing on to the south.
The berms on Route 50 were wide and the traffic was reasonably heavy. As we headed down the final hill of the day into Union we were suddenly met with a 20 mph head wind and a temperature drop of ten degrees.
After the walk Dee and Leonard decided to continue the "death by ice cream" event. This time we went to Bobby's Frozen Custard in Maryville, IL. Leonard and I got super sized sundaes. The frozen custard was awesome and the amount of fruit that they piled on was very impressive.
